Oredockers Win 2nd in a Row; Defeat Hayward, 28-12
The Ashland Oredockers jumped to a 28-0 halftime lead, and then held on for a 28-12 victory over the Hayward Hurricanes on October 1st at Rod Lundberg Field in Hayward. Ethan Peterson returned the opening kickoff to the Ashland 42. The Oredockers marched 58 yards in 9 plays, with the touchdown coming on a 2-yard-run by Parker Goodreau with 7:12 to go in the quarter. Cody Lustig, as he would after all 4 touchdowns, added the extra point to make it 7-0. Hayward then drove to midfield, and an Oredocker penalty gave the Hurricanes a first down at the Ashland 35. But a sack on 3rd down pushed the Hurricanes back to the 44 and Joey Gouge's punt was downed at the Ashland one-yard line. After picking up 3 yards on first down, Goodreau broke free on the left side and outraced the Hayward defenders for a 96 yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 with 2:03 left in the quarter.
The Oredockers added a pair of touchdowns in the 2nd period. Hayward was driving and had reached the Ashland 36, but on 2nd down, quarterback Chase Briggs' pass was intercepted by Cody Lustig at the 25, and Lustig returned it 75 yards for a touchdown with 7:47 left in the half to make it 21-0. On Hayward's next possession, Gouge shanked a punt from his end zone and the Oredockers took over at the Hurricanes' 20. Goodreau scored his 3rd touchdown on a 3-yard run on the 6th play of the drive with 3:27 left and the Oredockers led, 28-0 at the half.

The Hurricanes shut down the Oredockers offense in the 2nd half. Hayward got a 28-yard touchdown run by Isaac Hanson on the first play of the 4th quarter, and Melvin White added a 16 yard TD with 9:23 remaining. After gaining 223 yards in the first half, the Oredockers were held to just 63 yards after intermission. Unofficially, Ashland finished with 207 yards rushing and 79 passing. Goodreau had 188 yards on 25 carries with 3 touchdowns and Hunter Chenier carried 8 times for 21 yards. Quarterback Kade Jolma completed 6 passes in 11 attempts. Lustig had 3 catches for 40 yards and Marcus Kruzan caught 3 passes for 39 yards. Hayward had 157 yards rushing and 66 passing. Hanson carried 12 times for 89 yards and White had 9 carries for 50 yards. Chase Briggs completed just 7 of 23 throws for 66 yards, and had 3 passes intercepted.

Ashland improved to 2-5 overall; 2-3 in the Great Northern Conference. Hayward is 1-6 overall, 1-4 in the GNC.
